Dosage in adults
There is ample choice between various short-acting bronchodilator drugs in assessing the reversibility of airway obstruction.:
- Most frequently used, and hence first choice, is 4 puffs of 100 µg inhaled salbutamol. Spirometry is performed before and 20 minutes after administration of the drug.
- Second choice is 4 puffs of 20
µg inhaled ipratropium bromide (mostly administered in COPD).
The effect can be assessed after 40 minutes.
