Age distribution in reference population
After
age 20 yr progressively more males develop respiratory symptoms
in the Vlaardingen-Vlagtwedde study, start smoking, or both.
The ideal of a large number of observations in every age group
cannot be attained.
From age 40
yr the number of observations per age group is 5 or less.
