Interpretation of test results
It is implicitly assumed that test results of FEV1 and (F)VC entered for evaluation into SpirXpert comply with recommendations issued by ECCS/ERS and ATS. This implies that at least two or three technically acceptable (F)VC maneuvers were obtained with reproducible FEV1 and (F)VC. The values chosen should be the highest FEV1 and the highest (F)VC of any of these maneuvers.
The example relates to a boy aged 16 yr, standing height 176 cm. Three technically satisfactory and reproducible FVC maneuvers were obtained with the following results:
| Test number | |||
| 1 | 2 | 3 | |
| FEV1 | 2.97 | 2.85 | 2.70 |
| FVC | 3.91 | 4.05 | 3.95 |
The FEV1, FVC and the forced expiratory ratio (FER, FEV1%FVC) are well below normal limits, as indicated by the low Z-scores . On the basis of the patient's history of recurrent spells of breathlessness and wheezing it is decided to assess the response to a bronchodilator drug. First have a look at the more extensive assessment of data under 'Commentary'.
