Interpretation of test results
As discussed before the example on the right relates to a boy aged 16 yr, 176 cm. Three technically acceptable and reproducible FVC maneuvers were obtained with the following results:
| Pre | Test number | ||
| 1 | 2 | 3 | |
| FEV1 | 2.97 | 2.85 | 2.70 |
| FVC | 3.91 | 4.05 | 3.95 |
The more extensive interpretation of test results suggests that on the basis of the moderate airway obstruction in this young boy you might consider testing the response to a bronchodilator drug. Since this boy's history is compatible with variable airway obstruction, and as there is no contra-indication to the use of salbutamol, the study is repeated after inhalation of salbutamol.
