In this patient there is a marked bronchodilator effect, indicating that there was significant bronchomotor tone. In the great majority of cases an increase in the FEV1 is associated with an increase in the FVC; in this case the FVC returns to the normal range, while the FEV1 still falls just below the lower limit of normal.
