Flow-volume curve without cough
If the patient had not coughed, the maximum expiratory flow-volume
curve after the peak flow would have resembled the one indicated
by the white interrupted line.
You can see clearly that after each glottis opening expiratory flow briefly exceeds that allowed by the flow limiting segment: each cough is associated with a new ‘peak flow’.
